George Clinton with Parliament Funkadelic: The Mothership ConnectionRated: NR Date Added: 02/07/2005 Sound: Dolby Summary: If you think P-Funk is good on record, you will hyped by seeing them in concert. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to see these guys live, so this is the closest thing I have to the memorable and elaborate shows that P-Funk held in the mid to late 70's. All of the songs get two thumbs from me. The highlights of this show is the always great "Cosmic Slop," with Garry Shider at his best, "Standing on the Verge of Getting it On," where Fuzzy Haskins goes crazy, "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot," with Glen Goins at his all-time best, and the grand finale of "Tear the Roof off the Sucka" and "Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples" in which Bootsy/Bootsy's Rubber Band along with Sly and the Family Stone make guest appearences. You feel like your actually there and it is almost irresistable to not dance. The lighting really isn't an issue, though it is hard to see what is what at times. It's only minor, though, and shouldn't sour this P-Funk odyssey. I recommend to any fan who has either seen the Funk Mob live, or not. |

The Godfather DVD CollectionRated: R Date Added: 18/10/2006 Sound: Dolby Comments: Box set Summary: Some of the greatest masterpieces in cinema history, "The Godfather Collection" is the saga of the generations of successive power within the Corleone crime family, told in three films of staggering magnitude and vision, masterfully exploring themes of power, tradition, revenge and love. "The Godfather" (1972, 175 min.) - Adapted from Mario Puzo's best-selling novel, Francis Ford Coppola's epic masterpiece features Marlon Brando in his Oscar-winning role as the patriarch of the Corleones. Director Coppola paints a chilling portrait of the Sicilian clan's rise and near fall from power in America, masterfully balancing the story between the Corleone's family life and the ugly crime business in which they are engaged. Winner of three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. "The Godfather, Part II" (1974, 200 min.) - This brilliant sequel continues the saga of two generation of successive power within the Corleone family. Coppola tells two stories: the roots and rise of a young Don Vito (Robert De Niro), and the ascension of Michael (Al Pacino) as the new Don. Winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. "The Godfather, Part III" (1990, 170 min.) - Now in his 60's, Michael Corleone is dominated by two passions: freeing his family from crime, and finding a suitable successor. That successor could be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia), but he may also be the spark that turns Michael's hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. This special collection also includes an additional disc containing over 3 hours of bonus material.

Godzilla - Final WarsRated: PG-13 Date Added: 13/04/2006 Sound: Dolby Summary: Godzilla's 50th Anniversary project and costliest adventure to date out of 28 films. Earth has been relatively peaceful since Godzilla was successfully buried deep in ice beneath the South Pole. Then - sometime a few years hence-several of his old nemeses return to wreak havoc on cities worldwide. A huge spaceship suddenly appears and neutralizes all the monsters in a blink. The visitors are "Xiliens," who take human form and announce they would like to negotiate a peace treaty that would replace the United Nations with a "United Universe". They are indeed too good to be true, however. It doesn't take long before their nefarious real purpose is exposed - conquering Earth. Greatly outmatched, Earth officials decide to de-freeze Godzilla as man's only hope to vanish the invaders, as well as the monsters they control. Only trouble is Godzilla is still mad at man for freezing him in the first place. |

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla Masâki TezukaRated: NR Date Added: 31/01/2005 Sound: Dolby Summary: Japan's favorite city-wrecker faces his most formidable enemy--a robot version of himself--in this sci-fi adventure, which packs enough action to satisfy fans of giant-creature brawls. As with the previous films in the unofficial "Godzilla Millennium" series (which reinvented the Toho canon following the release of Godzilla 2000), Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla dismisses all of the monster's previous rampages after its initial appearance in 1954, including his three showdowns with MechaGodzilla. Here, the massive robot is constructed using DNA from the 1954 Godzilla (still moldering in Tokyo Bay) to combat a new one that threatens Japan. Director Maasaki Tezuki (Godzilla vs. Megaguirus) favors action over story, which may displease hardcore Godzilla fans, but the battles are spectacular, and clips from older Toho titles like Mothra and War of the Gargantuas are always a welcome sight (as is a cameo by the Yankees' Hideki Matsui!). As with other Columbia-TriStar Godzilla DVDs, this widescreen disc offers viewers two language options: the original Japanese dialogue track (with English or French subtitles) and an English-dubbed track. --Paul Gaita

Goin' SouthRated: PG Date Added: 09/11/2008 Languages: English Subtitles: English Sound: Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono Picture Format: Widescreen Summary: Nicholson directed and starred in this Western spoof about an outlaw who is saved from hanging by a young widow (Mary Steenburgen) who puts him to work as an indentured servant. She has a gold mine that no one knows about and she wants him to help her get the gold before anyone else finds out. But, of course, his old gang--who gave him up to the law in the first place--finds out about the mine and wants a piece of it. This was filmed in the late 1970s, when drug use was rampant (and not particularly frowned upon) in Hollywood; keep that in mind when you listen to Nicholson's stuffy-nose delivery. Alternately amusing and flat, with a cast that includes Steenburgen in her first movie role and John Belushi in a tiny part as a member of the gang, also making his film debut. "--Marshall Fine"
